Well it works so what more do you want from a free browser? Well....

It's not Firefox and does not feel quite as good to use. You might find a site that doesn't display well in Opera but there is a menu option to alert the Opera team so that they can review the site and fix any bugs within the program if they need to. As a former paying user of versions 3 to 5, I feel a little annoyed that the program is now free but it has developed considerably since those early days. Don't bother with the mail and newsgroup parts of it unless you want to learn a whole new way of working, it's a very strange interface. I'd rather use Outlook Express, although I'm strictly web mail these days and Opera does display my mail providers pages extremely well.

My main use of Opera these days is to test my own web pages. If there are any problems then I go back to the source and make changes. I usually find that IE and Firefox have displayed something in a way that I intended but perhaps there was a better way of doing it and Opera had alerted me to that better way. Like all browsers it's supposed to be standard complaint but to what degree I sometime wonder. It will show up badly put together websites rather well.

However I look at IE, Firefox and Opera, Opera will always come third but for some it could be a viable option so take a look.

Opera

My Score:

Like the last poster I''ve been using Opera so long I can''t remember when I started...I do remember it wasn''t in THIS century, though.

One other benefit of opera not mentioned above is in the context menue>insert personal...It''s supposed to be for your address, etc.
I found that using the entries for username/password listings makes it very easy to log in without depending on the browswer remembering to fill in the entries. A few seconds saved typing times 365 days times the different forums, etc., I access daily makes that quite worthwhile.

I''ve used three versions of IE, two (IE2)Maxithon, two Firefox, Wyzo, Slimbrowser and some others I can''t even remember...and ALWAYS come back to Opera. ''cuz it works!
The only reason the others even take up disk space is for webpages which are optimized for IE. Then Wyzo or Maxithon work. I don''t use IE in any version. The antiquated Java MS insists on is a real pain.

My Score:

Another feature of Opera (it should be something that every other browser do naturaly, but ... you can judge by yourself) : you can open many (over 30) tabs in a window, without the browser slurping every bit of available RAM your system has. It is very convenient, especially when you search something - just middleclick the results you want, without worrying about slowdowns and memory leaks, then quickly select the opened tabs and close the ones you are not interested in.

You can TRY this with Firefox, if you have time to lose ....

My Score:

Opera is the best browser out there - it is extremely fast, secure and the integration of its features beats everything that Firefox can offer.

The downside is that it does not have so many extensions as Firefox.

However, the builtin ones are superb - the Links, the Download manager, the smooth and hyperfast all page Zoom feature, the user and author CSS quick switch (you have to see it in action, and then you will not believe that you can effectively use a browser without it).

My Score:

That`s one opinion, yours, but IMHO, Opera has the best of all worlds, It`s faster than any other, and It`s extremely secure, which is more than I can say abuot IE and Firefox. I have been using opera since v.4 and I will never go back to another browser.
Btw, the mail client works like a charm, and if you ever used googlemail, you`ll find it to be veeeery easy to work with.
Conclusion: THUMB UP for Opera!!
